Pre-departure Activities (late April 2008 – June 2008)
Since the participants will represent secondary social studies teachers across the nation, it is impossible to conduct face-to-face pre-departure training. Therefore, the online learning modules will be applied to help participants develop background knowledge and a sense of group identity. The pre-training will start in late April 2008 for about two months.

2. Identifying specific area of interest for curriculum development
3. Building background knowledge/Intercultural competence
Post-departure Activities (August 2008 – August 2009)
A series of follow-up activities will be planned to continue the dialogue among participants and to ensure the incorporation of knowledge and skills gained in China into secondary social studies curriculum as well as the dissemination of teaching materials to a larger teaching community.
