| The Graduate Student Association
at Towson University began with a few graduate students who
felt it was necessary for an official organization to address
the needs of the graduate student population on campus. These
few dedicated graduate students found it a difficult task
to accomplish, but they pursued their vision regardless. They
ran up against a number of challenging obstacles, such as
lack of money, time, and support from the entire graduate
community. Realizing that most graduate students work full
time and take only a few night classes at a time, they rounded
together the graduate assistants working on campus to discuss
the formation of a graduate association. With the enthusiasm
of those first few gradate students, the group gained significant
support from the Graduate School to form officially the GSA
in February of 1990. Though such efforts, there are new two
graduate assistantships provided to maintain the existence
of the GSA. The size and influence of the GSA has grown over
time and continues to set goals for taking action on important
issues concerning Towson University's graduate students.
