Certificate Programs

Gerontology, Applied, Post-baccalaureate Certificate

The graduate certificate in Applied Gerontology consists of 18 units of graduate work designed to complement a graduate program of study or as a stand-alone certificate.  For more information about the program, see the department Web site or contact the program director, Donna Wagner, dwagner@towson.edu.

Admission Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree with a minimum of 9 units of upper-level course work in social sciences and/or experience working in the field of gerontology and/or course work or training in the field of gerontology.
  • Meeting the minimum requirements for admission to Towson University's Graduate School.
  • Send the following admission materials to the Graduate School Office, Towson University, 8000 York Road, Towson, MD 21252:

  • Two letters of recommendation
  • A one- to two-page essay discussing career goals and the planned focus of the graduate work

Certificate Requirements

  • Completion of 18 units with a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or better.
  • Satisfactory completion of 9 units selected from the core courses required for the Master of Science in Applied Gerontology.
  • GERO 601 Seminar in Professional Gerontological Issues (3)
    GERO 620 Legal Issues in Gerontological Practice (3)
    GERO 610 Applied Gerontological Research Methods (3)
    GERO 684 Gerontological Practicum (3)
    or
    GERO 685 Independent Study in Gerontological Practice (3)
    HLTH 619 Organizing Systems of Care for Chronically Ill and Physically Dependent Populations (3)
    PSYC 610 Advanced Psychology of Aging (3)

  • Satisfactory completion of 9 units of graduate electives as approved by academic adviser
