Audiology (Au.D.)

Towson University's Applied Doctor in Audiology program, one of the nation's largest, offers students an unbeatable combination: superb faculty, one-on-one attention, solid financial resources, a talented and diverse student body winning national recognition, and clinical placements at world-class medical institutions including Johns Hopkins University and Walter Reed Medical Center.

All of the classes are taught by faculty who hold Ph.D.s or Au.D.s in their areas of specialization. Most of the classes (83%) are taught by full-time audiology faculty. Teaching is the primary faculty emphasis at Towson, and all faculty members are approachable and genuinely interested in student learning.

Towson's state-of-the-art clinical research labs provide you with the resources and equipment essential for gaining applied and research experience. The Auditory Electrophysiology Lab, the Vestibular Lab, the Center for Amplification, Rehabilitation and Listening and the Tinnitus Lab are used for both teaching and research. The program is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. It features three on-campus and four off-campus clinical rotations over three years of coursework, followed by a one-year clinical externship. In recent years, students in clinical externships have received stipends.

The program prepares you for national certification and state licensure, providing a solid grounding in the scientific and research aspects of evaluating, treating and preventing auditory, balance, communication and related disorders.

If you hold a bachelor's degree or the equivalent in speech-language pathology and audiology, the program prepares you to meet the academic and clinical practicum requirements of national and state accrediting, certifying and licensing bodies. If you hold an undergraduate degree in an unrelated field, you may apply to the Audiology Five Year Program :
