Teaching (MAT) - special Education - Secondary
What is an MAT?
The Towson University Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program gives you extensive, school-based training in an award-winning local professional development school network. The program is targeted to recent graduates of bachelor's or graduate degree programs in education or other disciplines, as well as mid-career professionals who are eager to make career changes and enter a field where they can truly change lives.
Select Your Format
Through the MAT, you will integrate a solid foundation of subject matter expertise with the most current knowledge on teaching and learning, including assessment, literacy and essential skills for educators. The MAT may be completed in two ways. The fast track, intensive one-year program requires a full-time commitment to courses and field placements, and encompasses a summer, fall and extended spring term. The two-year program allows you to design a part-time course load to fit your schedule and is typically completed in six terms or more. A special education concentration is offered through the two-year program.
Gain Classroom Experience
Gain classroom experience and one-on-one mentoring through professional development school partnerships with local public schools. You will create and present a portfolio that demonstrates attainment of national performance standards in lieu of a master's thesis. The program prepares you to meet state teacher certification requirements within the general education tracks of early childhood, elementary or secondary education.
