Science Education (M.S.)

The Master of Science (M.S.) in science education is designed for high school biology or chemistry teachers seeking to meet and surpass the standards set by the No Child Left Behind Act. Through course work, independent study and research projects, you will enhance your teaching skills and gain comprehensive knowledge in your content area. With an emphasis on best practices in science education, the program prepares you to apply instructional technology and implement state and national standards of science teaching into the classroom. The program also prepares graduates for national board certification through the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS).

While pursuing a generalized knowledge of science education, you will focus on your area of specialty. Select the link to read more about each track:

  • Biology - complete core course work in molecular biology, animal physiology and population/ community biology.
  • Chemistry - complete core course work in laboratory experiment design, organic chemistry, biochemistry/ molecular biology, medicinal chemistry, inorganic materials chemistry and physical chemistry.
  • Earth and Environmental Science - complete core course work in environmental geology, environmental chemistry and ecosystems ecology.
